Why them
I lost my mum when I was just 23. At the time, I didn't have the support or guidance that Child Bereavement UK offers families every single day.
Their support helps children and young people grieve, heal and rebuild their lives. I wish I'd had that. Now I'm running to help make sure it's there for the next family who needs it, because no child should have to navigate the loss of a parent or loved one feeling alone.
The support, understanding and safe space these services provide can make such a difference during the darkest of times.
Running for every child who needs hope
What they do
Child Bereavement UK supports grieving children and young people up to 25, and parents bereaved of a child, to find hope, through free expert guidance, resources and compassionate support.
Trained bereavement specialists are available Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm (excluding bank holidays) by phone, email, text, WhatsApp or via their website. No appointment needed and no long wait times.
Free online tools, guides and publications that help children, young people, parents and carers understand their grief and feel less alone, and help the people around them feel more confident supporting them.
If a child, young person or parent is really struggling, their specialists explore what that person needs and assess whether one-to-one or group support would help. Grief isn't one-size-fits-all, so neither is the support.
Tailored advice, training and education programmes for teachers, health professionals and others, so the adults around a grieving child know what to say and do.
Their services are available to individuals of any gender or gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, disability, race, religion, faith, belief or sexual orientation.
In their words
There's no right or wrong way to feel when you're grieving, and no timeline to follow. Grief looks different for everyone, and whatever it looks like to you is okay.
It's never about "moving on". It's about finding a way forward that keeps you connected to the person who died.
Grief can feel like the loneliest place in the world. Child Bereavement UK exists so that you don't have to face it on your own.
The meaning behind the sun
Child Bereavement UK's brand icon is a sun, chosen to symbolise both endings, in the setting sun, and new beginnings, in the rising one. Its brightness stands for hope and optimism for the future.
Rebuilding lives together
If you need support right now
This site is a fundraising page. It isn't a support service. If you or someone you know is grieving, Child Bereavement UK's team is there, and their support is free.
